Six talented young writers have been named the winners of Warren County Community College’s 2016 High School Poetry and Fiction Contests.
The contest received 116 submissions from high school students across Warren County.
At the top of the fiction submissions were the following students:
- 1st Place —Abbigale Evans, Phillipsburg High School — “The Purpose of Mirrors”
- 2nd Place — Michael Scarince, Warren County Technical School — “A Conflict above the Clouds”
- 3rd Place — Hannah Donnelly, Hackettstown High School — “At The Corner of Main And…”
The poetry winners are as follows:
- 1st Place— Amanda Roberts, Belvidere High School — “Second Chances”
- 2nd Place— Nicole Antonelli, Warren Hills Regional High School — “Time”
- 3rd Place— Laura Mora, Phillipsburg High School — “Blue Jeans”
Winners of this competitive writing contest have been invited to read their work at the college on Thursday, April 28, as part of the Visiting Authors Series and Ars Poetica release event. Ars Poetica is the college’s literary journal. The event will also feature writers from the college. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is made possible through a grant from the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
The next Warren County High School Poetry and Fiction Contests will begin in February 2017.
