Weekly Washington Farmers Market Kicks Off Soon

A scene from last year's farmers' market.

The Washington Borough Farmers Market kicks off the same day as the Washington Business Improvement District’s Sustainably Green Music & Arts Fest on June 18, but that’s only the start of a farm market season that promises to be fun all summer long and into early fall.

In addition to lots of vendors offering fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs and plenty of other goodies and products, visitors can enjoy weekly themes including music, kids’ activities, and more, as well as days devoted to health and wellness, pets, veterans and farmer appreciation.  Specialty days include Christmas in July with Santa and Mrs. Claus (July 23), Mini Kids Fest (Aug. 6), Beach Day (Aug. 13), and the first annual Potato Fest (Sept. 10). The “season” ends with a “Pumpkin Round-Up” on Oct. 1.

Also new this year is the first Flower Power Day, scheduled for July 30, featuring sunflowers from Von Thun Farms and plants and flowers from The Rooted Lion, as well as other vendor flower offerings.

Among the musical performers scheduled this year are Maribyrd on June 25, George Marinich (July 9) and Kate & Paul (July 30).

The Farmers Market is held in the center of Downtown Washington every Saturday by Veterans Park, formerly known as the Pocket Park, through Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Farmers Market, presented by the Washington Borough Green Team in association with the Washington Business Improvement District, offers a variety of farms and vendors each week.

Among the regular farmers market vendors coming so far this year are: Pipers Hill Farms, The Rooted Lion/Dandy Lion Acres Farm: K & A Farms, Bread Lock Botanicals, Greenbytes Farm, Fern Valley Farm, and Bee To The Honey.

Sponsors of this year’s Farmers Market include Hairmazing, Home Instead Senior Care, Shembre & Gannon LLC, Direct Millwork/Builders General Supply, Visions Federal Credit Union, DM Solutions LLC, Washington Diner, Unity Bank, Smith Tractor, David Santini, CPA, Swift Print Solutions, Good Impressions Print Communications, and Washington and Warren County Clean Communities.
