Two Warren County Community College students were among 38 from throughout New Jersey who were honored at a special recognition event on May 8 in Trenton.
The N.J. Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) honored these talented, innovative and dedicated community college students and their families at its 25th annual New Jersey Community College Scholars Celebration at the New Jersey State Museum.
The 2019 New Jersey All-State Academic Team members from WCCC are Brenda Haycock of Columbia and Arleen Molina of Hackettstown. Haycock will be attending Rutgers and Molina East Stroudsburg University starting in fall 2019.
“Two outstanding students,” said WCCC President Dr. Will Austin. “Clearly they are among the elite in the state. We are very proud of them.”
“Each year we invite New Jersey’s top community college students and their families to celebrate their outstanding academic achievements and exceptional service to their communities as members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at their local community colleges,” added NJCCC Chair (and WCCC Trustee Chair) Dr. Phil Linfante.
“Our 19 community colleges provide life changing opportunities to over 325,000 students each year, and these 38 students are accomplished academic scholars and community leaders on our campuses,” noted NJCCC President Aaron Fichtner, Ph.D.
Phi Theta Kappa has recognized and encouraged scholarships among community college students for 101 years while promoting the academic integrity of the community college associate degree. Students with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa.
The New Jersey Council of County Colleges joins the leadership of trustees and presidents to serve a resource that strengthens and supports the state’s 19 community colleges.
