WCCC Offers Host Of Law Enforcement Courses 

Staying up to date on investigation skills can make or break a case. Warren County Community College is offering several professional development courses for law enforcement this fall to help refresh, build upon, and offer new insights into investigation and crime scene maintenance.  

All courses will be held at the College’s Phillipsburg Education Center, 445 Marshall Street, Phillipsburg. 

Death Investigation, a two-day workshop running Oct. 2-3, will explore the key elements and basic techniques for assessing the scene of a death. The class will cover types of death scenes, causes of death, and how to identify the key elements of a scene to determine whether the scene is suspicious.   

The three-day Tactical Interviewing Program®, Oct. 15-17, covers interviewing and interrogation techniques as related to criminal investigation. Teaching the PSYCHO LOGIC method of interrogation, this course will explore how human brains process information and arrive at the decision to tell the truth or deny it. The concepts within this class are advanced but can be used by both beginner and advanced investigators.   

Crime Scene Management, a two-day workshop Nov. 13-14, teaches basic crime scene investigation techniques, providing a blend of lectures and hands-on training for officers, detectives, and crime scene investigators. The course will include discussion of DNA evidence, photography and documentation, and types of evidence and how to preserve it.  

Finally, the Effects of Investigative Bias in Law Enforcement, a one-day workshop on Dec. 4, explores the importance of objectivity in an investigation, as well as the negative effects of several forms of “Investigative Bias” as it pertains to an investigation. This course will discuss both conscious and subconscious types are biases that may affect an investigation.
