Thirty Warren County Community College students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements this November at a special ceremony inducting them into the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
The WCCC Alpha Upsilon Rho Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa welcomed 30 new members into its organization on Friday, Nov. 9, based on their outstanding academic records and commitment to educational pursuits.
Phi Theta Kappa International is the honor society for 2-year colleges and boasts members from throughout the country and abroad. Among the criteria for induction, students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in accredited courses that can lead to an associate degree. As a member of PTK, students are eligible to apply for Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships offered by over 600 4-year colleges and universities located throughout the United States.
“The students inducted into PTK have worked hard to be among the best,” said Jean Vasko, PTK Advisor. “These students are dedicated to their education, earning their spots in the leading honor society for community colleges.
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society promotes the values of Fellowship, Leadership, Service and Scholarship.
Carolina Sabsoul, New Jersey State President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, delivered the keynote address at the event, titled “Leadership Starts With You”.
Additionally, the WCCC chapter awarded a “Stole of Gratitude” to Dorothy Helmken, past President of the chapter, for her dedication and continued involvement in the success of the Alpha Upsilon Rho chapter on campus.
Chapter officers Allan Martinez, President, Frank Wiggins, VP of Fellowship, Allie Wiggins, Secretary, and Brenda Haycock, VP of Service, welcomed the newest members of the organization.
