Warren County Community College continues to be among the top community colleges in New Jersey for graduation rate and it celebrated this year’s accomplishments during its 31st commencement this past Saturday. Not even rain could dampen anyone’s spirits and saw it as a sign of good luck!
Dorothy Helmken, President of the WCCC PTK Chapter, was the Student Speaker. Freeholder Director Ed Smith was the Keynote Speaker. Other featured speakers included Jason Sarnoski, representing the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and N.J. State Senator Michael Doherty.
Professor Harvey Cartine was the Grand Marshal. Deidre Van Deursen sang the National Anthem.
This year’s graduating class numbered over 250.
“An outstanding group of graduates,” lauded Dr. Will Austin, President of WCCC. “These graduates are a true cross-section not only representative of Warren County, but the country. From traditional college students to returning students, and even one high school student!”
Dr. Austin was referring to Stewartsville’s Kwinton Adams, a senior at Phillipsburg High School, who amassed enough college credits through dual enrollment and in-class courses to earn an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts this year. His sister Kwyla also graduated from WCCC, but through the traditional route.
