“Inclusion shouldn’t be a lottery.” This is the tagline of the award-winning documentary, “Deej,” which follows the journey of a young man with non-verbal autism as he strives to attain his dream of attending college. This month, Warren County Community College will be celebrating inclusion with a free, public showing of this touching, thought-provoking film.

“Deej” will be shown on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. on WCCC’s Washington Campus, in the Annex Room (A108).

Abandoned by his birth parents, advocate for inclusion DJ Savarese found a loving family who believed in his ability to communicate in spite of non-verbal autism. Finding solace in poetry and filmmaking, DJ dreamed of attending college. Director Robert Rooy captures DJ’s perseverance as he confronts obstacles in his search for triumph, but the story itself is told in his own words by DJ, through the aid of computer software.

Warren County Community College’s Washington campus is located at 475 Route 57 West. The college offers free and open-to-the-public events throughout the year. For more information about Warren County Community College, please visit www.warren.edu.
