There is still time for Warren County to be counted! But not much longer.
The deadline to submit information to the Census Bureau is Sept. 30.
Response to this drive is crucial for many reasons, in particular for funding opportunities that may be available through the federal government in the coming years.
In figures released by New Jersey officials earlier this week, Washington Township and Greenwich lead Warren County communities in the Census response rate, with Washington at 84.1 percent and Greenwich right behind at 83.5 percent. No other Warren County towns are over the 80 percent mark, however Lopatcong at 78.4, and Allamuchy and White, are nearby at 78.2 percent.
Leading the mid-70 percent pack are Hackettstown and Washington Borough at 74.9, followed by Independence and Oxford at 74.5, and Alpha at 74.2.
Towns in the “low 70s” include Franklin, Mansfield, Pohatcong, Blairstown, and Belvidere.
Five communities fall below 70 percent: Harmony, Phillipsburg, Frelinghuysen, Hardwick, Knowlton, and Liberty.
Hope, at 58.9 percent, is the only Warren County township not to have submitted at least 60 percent.
Overall New Jersey is ranked 21st in the nation at 67.1 percent. The national average is 65 percent.
