The award-winning Washington Borough Farmers’ Market blooms into life on June 15, marking the beginning of a full season of locally-grown produce and special events.
The Farmers’ Market runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday from June 15 through the end of October. It will be located in downtown Washington Borough, with its anchor in the Pocket Park at 44 E. Washington Avenue (Route 57).
Vendors this year include several local farmers and produce vendors, Dandy Lion Acres Farm (farm fresh eggs, hanging baskets and plants, fresh produce), Greenbytes Farm (local honey, fresh and sundried herbs), Maxwell’s Farm (seasonal vegetables), Stone Row Acres Farm (fresh cut and dried flowers, succulents, handcrafted items), and Zip’s Fresh Produce (Jersey fresh produce). Steeped Tea with Jamie will offer a variety of non-GMO loose leaf teas as well as accessories. Several arts and crafts vendors are also slated for the weekly event: do good! goods (products made by people living in impoverished areas of Appalachia, including lanterns, candles, and wind chimes), GFix Drawings (pastel and pencil drawings), Buncha Bubbles (handmade vegan soaps and beauty products), Avon (personal beauty products, bug repellent, jewelry), and Glamorous Bling by I&E Paparazzi ($5 jewelry). Warren County Aging and Disability Services will also exhibit information.
Organizers are still accepting vendor applications.
In addition to great vendors, the Washington Farmers’ Market is known for its special events! Not only will local performers offer a variety of music styles most weeks, but contests, a kids fest, and more add to the enjoyment throughout the season. The Farmers’ Market committee is also working on some special promotional activities in partnership with the local businesses.
On June 22, the Farmers’ Market is a special day for seniors, with various activities planned as well as discounts. That day is sponsored by Hunterdon Healthcare and NJ American Water Company.
The official kick-off date of June 15 will also include the Washington Borough Green Team’s annual Green Fest, with entertainment and earth-conscious activities and vendors and will culminate October 26 with Pumpkin Fest, which will include a carving competition. Dust off grandma’s secret recipes for some of the annual food competitions—The Red, White & Blue Baking Contest takes place July 6 and Apple Baking on September 21—and then dress up for one of the theme weekends!
Sponsors for the Farmers’ Market this year are Visions Federal Credit Union, Hackettstown Medical Center, Hunterdon Health Care, Smith Tractor, Washington Borough Clean Communities, Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission, Warren County Dental, Hairmazing, WcG CrossFit, Max Spann Auctions, and Unity Bank.
