As the end of the season quickly approaches, the Warren Tech Girls Basketball team is not showing any signs of slowing down. The team showed early on this season that it was going to go out and give it their all, when the Lady Knights placed third in the North Jersey Tech-Tacular Holiday Tournament.
Over the course of the season the team has really bonded together or “come together as one,” if you ask first year varsity head coach Katie Ihrie. After this season the team will be losing three of its seniors Ruth Wicks, Ebony Smith and Jillain Eick.
Wicks in particular, has been a big part of the team’s close bond with each other. This became more apparent when she was recently recognized as one of Warren Tech’s Athletes of the Month. Both at practice and games, Wicks brings the right attitude onto the court and encourages her teammates.
Despite the loss of three prominent seniors, the Warren Tech Girls Basketball Program still has a bright future ahead of it One player in particular who made this apparent was Shealyn Profilis. Only a junior, Profilis become the team’s leading scorer, having already scored 220 points by the beginning of February.
Ihrie has been very content with the team’s work ethic thus far, but she reminded us that winning is not the most important part, “As long as they’re having fun and enjoying what they’re doing, I’m a happy camper.”
