Warren Spared the Worst of it; Rivers still raged

While Warren County did not have the flooding extremes of other parts of the state, we did have some, and the rivers did provide some concern as the rains continued. Charlie Fineran captured the “high tides” earlier this week.

The four photos here might be interesting in the fact that the Delaware at Phillipsburg was almost at the crest, maybe an hour short.  The dam photo of the Pequest is only several hundred feet away from the Delaware River by the Belvidere Bridge.  It always amazes me, that no matter how violent and turbulent the Pequest River gets, it really is NEVER a spectacular show going into the Delaware!  Thursday was no different, as a matter of fact, as soon as the Pequest’s water hit the Delaware, the Delaware’s high water literally pushed it into a direct left turn and it could be seen hugging the Jersey shoreline for a short distance!!  NOTE:  Sometimes the Pequest can be very turbulent from local flooding and the Delaware may still be fairly normal in flow, not effected by the local flooding. The Pequest still just melds gently into the Delaware’s water! I also included a photo of the Free Bridge taken on April 4, 2005 (at bottom) to remind everyone just how high the Delaware can get!  Remember we had those three giant Delaware River Floods!
