Warren Hills Wrestlers Streaking To An Early Start

The Warren Hills Blue Streaks got off to a 2-0 start in wrestling with a 44-21 win over North Warren and a 37-19 win over Voorhees in their December dual matches.

Next up is the John Goles Tournament, which Warren Hills will host for the 61st time on Thursday, Dec. 27, with the first whistle for a full day of wrestling scheduled for 9:30 a.m. After celebrating the arrival of 2019, the Blue Streaks will travel to Phillipsburg for a Jan. 2 dual meet, a match which most likely will decide the championship of the Skyland Conference Raritan Division.

The Streaks dominated the upper weights in defeating North Warren, of the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference. At 182 and 220 pounds, Tyler McCatharin and Nick Galka won by pins in less than two minutes (1:23 and 1:08). Heavyweight Durodolu Ajai won a 9-0 major decision and Logan Polcari won the 195-pound bout by forfeit.

Warren Hills pinners at the lower and middle weights were  Logan Nauta at 138 in 2:46, and Chris Ostir at 145 in 1:57.  At 106 Jared Lee won a 9-1 major decision. Noah DiNapoli won a 6-0 regular decision at 113, and Greg Slivka won a 9-4 decision at 120.

North Warren won two bouts by pin and three by regular decision. Devin Collett won by fall in 3:17 at 132 pounds and Joe Voitek won a pin at 3:52 in the 170 bout. At 126 Alex Davila won by 10-5, at 152 Brandon Casey won 7-5 and at 160 Rob Fletcher won 7-2.

At Warren Hills on Dec. 19, the Blue Streaks won eight of the final 10 bouts to secure their first conference win of the season, over Raritan Division rival Voorhees. 

The visiting Vikings led 12-6 after the first four bouts.

Warren Hills winners included DiNapoli and Slivka by fall at 113 and 120 pounds, Steve Malia by major decision at 126 over Aidan Taylor, and Lee by decision at 106.

Heavyweight Lewis Fernandez won by fall for Voorhees.

The Blue Streaks’ guests at the Goles Tournament will be Columbia, Delaware Valley, Edison, Hopewell Valley, Newton, North Hunterdon, Sparta, Verona, and West Morris.
