Warren County Library Offers Virtual Activities

The Warren County Library has both in-person and virtual events lined up for the end of June.

On Monday, June 28, a virtual program from the Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium will introduce children from preschool age to teens to interesting animal adaptations.

The program, Tails and Tales: A Special Program About Sea Life, will be run at 4:30 p.m.

Animals using their tails, such as tadpoles who use their tails for propulsion and thresher sharks who use their tails to stun prey will be featured as will a discussion of how animals appear in literature.

Children can participate in-person in Super Bubble Fun Time on Tuesday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Gazebo at the Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch, 4 Lambert Road, Blairstown. Children must bring their own bubbles.

The event also includes music and “bubbleology” from Currier’s Magical Mania, the official library “bubbleologist.”  Social distancing guidelines must be followed for this weather-dependent event. Families must bring their own blanket or chairs and no walk-ins will be allowed.

Another virtual event will be held on Wednesday, June 30, at 11 a.m.

Karim Nagi, a native Egyptian musical artist, will bring traditional Arab music and dance to a contemporary audience. Nagi performs on multiple percussion and string instruments from around the Arab world and explains the history of each instrument with descriptions of how they are made.  He will also demonstrate how the names of each instrument are written in Arabic script and pronounced.  Also in the program will be a lesson in some Arab folk dances. He will leave time for questions.

Nagi is an immigrant to the US who has released 14 CDs, ranging from traditional Arab music to fusion and electronica.  He has authored instructional videos for Arab percussive instruments and Arab dance styles.  As a dance and drum teacher, Nagi has taught in dozens of festivals in the US, Asia, Europe and back in Cairo, Egypt. He attends most major Arab Culture festivals in the US and has his own TEDx talk.

The event is made possible by funds from the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division of Land Preservation, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and by funds from the Friends of the Warren County Library, Headquarters.

All three events require registration on the library website: warrenlib.evenaced.info/signup by entering your library card number and pin in the registration section of the event you wish to attend.

Patrons can be reminded of the event through email or text.
