The Warren County Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution in support of New Jersey Senate Bill S-3730 during its regular meeting of April 12, 2023. Introduced by Senator Douglas J. Steinhardt of District 23 on March 20, 2023, the bill aims to establish a “Rural Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program” within the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.

“We are committed to ensuring that everyone in Warren County has access to broadband,” said Commissioner Director Lori Ciesla. “In today’s world, reliable internet is essential in almost all aspects of life, and we are working diligently to secure the funding needed to improve broadband access in our county,” she added.

Recognizing the urgent need for reliable and high-speed internet in Warren County, the resolution highlights the County’s efforts to challenge Federal Communications Commission broadband maps and secure increased federal funding for New Jersey. The establishment of a “Rural Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program” would facilitate much-needed funds for Warren County to implement broadband telecommunications infrastructure expansions and improvements.

“Many rural communities in Warren County and across this part of the state can often be overlooked by these telecom companies, resulting in limited broadband options and slower speeds for homeowners and businesses. Given the significant reliance on high-speed internet in today’s world, we believe it is crucial to take initiative and ensure these essential services are available to our communities,” Commissioner Jason J. Sarnoski said.

Warren County has been collaborating with local government partners, residents, and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to collect data and challenge broadband maps to ensure that federal funding is allocated appropriately. The resolution emphasizes the importance of establishing the “Rural Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program” to facilitate the implementation of broadband infrastructure projects in Warren County and across New Jersey.
