It’s beginning to look a lot like autumn, but the Warren County Community Singers already have visions of sugarplums, or at least of holiday music.
For the first full season since spring of 2020, the singers are together again and working on music for the 2022 Winterfest of Song.
The concert will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, and Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Washington.
Enrollment is still open for singers to join the chorus. WCCS is a non-audition group that rehearses at the First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street, Washington, every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Singers come from all over Warren County as well as Hunterdon and other neighboring counties.
A mysterious soprano shortage seems to have hit the singers this fall, so ladies with higher ranges are very welcome. The need for tenors is, as usual, urgent. But, all voice parts are welcome. There is a $55 music fee.
The singers are under the direction of Hunter Chadeayne and accompanist is Ann Hoyt, who has been a fixture of the group for many years.
In addition to the adult group, the singers sponsor The Children’s Chorus of Warren County under the direction of Mariah Adams, long-time choral music teacher at Allamuchy School.
Children ages 7 though 13 with unchanged voices are welcome to join without an audition. The registration fee is $25 and registration is open through October.
The Children’s Chorus begins rehearsals begin Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals run an hour, so after the children start their season, the adult chorus rehearsal time moves to 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The Children’s Chorus of Warren County is sponsored by the WCCS and the singers are funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts through the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division of the county Land Preservation Department.
