Plan to Identify Strategies and Actions to Improve Transportation Safety for All Road Users

Warren County is excited to announce the development of a countywide Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP), which will identify and prioritize transportation safety improvements to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on our county and municipal roadways.

“Warren County is dedicated to the safety of everyone using our roads and transit systems. Implementing a Local Safety Action Plan is a crucial move to keep safety at the forefront across all transportation modes,” said Warren County Commissioner Deputy Director Jason J. Sarnoski, who serves as Second Vice Chair of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority.

“Developing a Local Safety Action Plan will improve safety for Warren County residents traveling throughout the region,” Sarnoski said.

“We are excited to partner with local stakeholders and transportation users to enhance transportation safety for all in Warren County,” he noted, adding, “We encourage Warren County residents to visit Warren.SafetyPlansNJ.com to participate in a survey and web mapping activity. Residents can also meet project team members in person at the Hot Air Ballons, Fun & Games Festival on Saturday, September 21st to share their experiences with safety while traveling in the County.”

More than 43 percent of all fatal and serious injury crashes in Warren County happen on local roads. The Federal Highway Administration has identified LSAPs as a proven and effective strategy to reduce these crashes.

Creating LSAPs can help counties and municipalities access new funding opportunities to implement safety plans, including federal programs such as the $5 billion Safe Streets and Roads for All Program.

The LSAP process relies on input from Warren County residents and technical experts to match local needs with solutions that will reduce and eliminate serious injuries and fatalities. There will be several opportunities for Warren County residents to provide feedback to help guide the creation of this plan, including an online survey and in-person events. The project team will be attending the Warren County Hot Air Balloons, Fun & Games Festival on Saturday, September 21 to connect with residents and learn about their transportation safety concerns.

This planning effort is being funded by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the federally authorized metropolitan planning organization for 13 counties in northern and central New Jersey.
