Some 65 area women, including Warren County residents, took part in the annual United Way of Northern New Jersey Honey Open Golf Outing on October 4 at the Farmstead Golf & Country Club.
Nearly $20,000 was raised at the women’s-only golf event to support scholarship opportunities for local women and their families who are ALICE—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to afford the basic necessities.
Hosted by United Way Women United, this event honors the legacy of tournament founder Helen “Honey” Ackerman, a former Sussex County clerk who believed women and children should have access to resources to build a better life, subsequently helping to build a stronger community. Women United brings together philanthropic women across the region to help ALICE women and those in poverty become more financially self-sufficient.
Event proceeds will go toward three of United Way’s ALICE scholarship programs. United Way partners with area childcare centers to provide professional development opportunities for educators and to allow families access to quality childcare. In addition, United Way helps ALICE students complete their post-secondary education with funds that are matched by Sussex County Community College.
