Christy O’Connor’s “Treacherous Women” mixed media installation brings to life women from global history who were deemed too dangerous, radical, or powerful in their times. The exhibit will be open to visitors of Warren County Community College through the end of the month.  

The College is located on Route 57 in Washington Township. The show is free and open to the public during regular College hours. The installation can be viewed in the College’s Second Floor Art Gallery. 

“Throughout my process, I reference multiple photographs and artistic renderings of each subject. I look at various facial expressions and different points in their lives in order to create portraits that embody the spirit of these women,” said O’Connor. She adds, “I pose several questions:  would this woman have been persecuted if she had been a man?  Would she have been considered controversial?  Would she have been forgotten or overlooked?  Would she have been hated?  Would her behavior have been seen as treacherous, if she had been a man?” 

Based out of Monmouth County, O’Connor uses her art to explore feminism and gender, society and politics, and psychological dystopias. Her work has appeared in an array of exhibitions throughout the tri-state area. She works as an art curator.
