Travel Was Quite A Lot Different Way Back When

It has always been enjoyable for me utilizing old sayings and cliches in my presentations. Well today I will be using some, “Right off the bat” and “Set the tone” (Establishing the mood of something, or the manner in which something will be conducted) and “Set the stage” (To arrange an act or scene of a production)  **NOTE If you don’t mind, I’m also taking credit for the “Right off the bat” (immediately or quickly) remark!  OK, to put our old sayings into action please follow the instructions provided next.

FIRST, would you all, to take a moment, relax and prepare to focus.

SECOND, let’s, “Set the tone” and “Set the stage” to get us into the proper frame of mind for today’s story. Hopefully, this may be achieved by looking back in time and observing the various modes of transportation used by our forefathers.

THREE, during these moments, looking at each photo, imagine yourself getting into each of these vehicles and then beginning your journey to wherever. All the while remembering your journey could be at any time of day or night, AND/AND under any and all, weather conditions!

OBSERVATIONS:

#1 – Back in the good olde days, most of the moving around, was during daylight

#2 – Weather for the most part, unless extreme, did not hold back moving around.  NOTE: One glaring exception here – The Morris Canal!  Shut down in the winter due to ice!  Technology – via the Railroads provided solution – CARRY MORE FREIGHT – FASTER – 24/7!

#3 – Keep in mind the meaning of the word ‘TECHNOLOGY’ (1. The science or study of the practical or industrial arts, applied sciences, etc.)  Feel free to, enjoy & have some fun, comparing the technologies of the given times, seeing just how fast those subject words “Travel in style – The Olde Days” have developed, improved and changed because of the word ‘TECHNOLOGY’!!

STORY BEHIND PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Watching TV and the news over the this summer concerning modern day travel challenges, fuel costs for cars and trucks, travelers having their flight delayed or cancelled etc. etc., got me to thinking might be interesting to look at some old photos depicting “Old Time Transportation” and then make some comparisons between the “Bygone Days and the Present.”

There are always challenges in all we do! I believe looking at the old days their main restrictions were technology or lack of technology issues. I believe I am also safe in saying many of our modern challenges are self-inflicted based on ideologies and political issues OK, think I have my Photo of the Week article, depicting and reminding how times have changed and that even with technology improvements we still have challenges in getting around!

Please enjoy the photos below and imagine taking a “ride” in any of them. Below, please refer to three other links.
