As social media continues to grow in popularity, many people, and businesses, are using images from others to augment their own posts on Facebook, Twitter and other related outlets. But is that legal? What can you use, or perhaps more importantly, what can’t you use, so that you don’t find yourself getting a nasty communication from the originator of the image, or worse, find yourself facing legal action.
Knowing the Dos and Don’ts of online image use is the topic of the August Washington Business Improvement District’s monthly Lunch ‘N Learn on Thursday, Aug. 11 at Enzo’s Pasta Grill, Route 57, Washington.
Steve Kirchuk, of Computer Images Web in Washington, will lead the discussion, which will touch on several facets of graphic usage. For those who have wondered whether it’s okay to post a picture found on a search engine, or where to find images online that are OK for general usage, “Social Media & Online Image Use” will include an introduction to copyright laws and fair use images.
Discussion will also touch on picking out an optimal picture or graphic, and how to get the most out of it once the perfect image is chosen.
The WBID presents Lunch ‘N Learns every second Thursday of the month, always from 11:45-1:15. The WBID also offers a free business networking event the first Tuesday of every month, at various locations in the Borough. In addition, it hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the Festival in the Borough on Sept. 24.
To register for the “Do’s and Don’t’s of Image Use” Lunch ‘N Learn, or to learn more about the WBID, go to www.washingtonbid.org. Cost is $15, which includes lunch, in advance ($20 at the door). For further information, call 908-689-4800.
