Thiel Named Washington BID Executive Director

Melanie Thiel, a very familiar face around Warren County for many years and for the past year as the Executive Assistant at the Washington Business Improvement District, has been named the WBID’s Executive Director.

Thiel replaces John Monteverde, who has announced his retirement. Monteverde had been the Executive Director for the past four years.

“We are delighted to have Mel as our new Executive Director,” said WBID Board Chair, Ellen Perkins. “She brings a unique perspective to our leadership team with her background in marketing and special events. What stands out most however, is Mel’s enthusiasm. She brings out the best in everyone around her.

“For the past year she has helped make the WBID a better organization and we know that she will continue to be a leader,” added Perkins. “In evaluating where we want to go moving forward, Mel is the perfect fit.”

“I am very excited about this great opportunity,” said Thiel. “The WBID has a very supportive Board and I appreciate their confidence in me. We want to keep the good things going and will be adding more events and programs in the future. As the representative of the business community of the Borough, it is important that we do what is necessary to keep the momentum going.”

Thiel pointed out that several new businesses have opened up in the Borough in the past year, particularly downtown, and that there is an amazing camaraderie among many of the owners.  She also praised the efforts of longtime owners including Kevin Hopkins of Gibsons Gym, who continue to make a difference in Washington.

“Good things are happening in Washington,” said Thiel. “And there are more good things still to come! Meet me in the Borough!”

To those who know Thiel, her positive nature is no surprise. Thiel was the General Manager and weekday morning host at WNTI-FM radio for several years where she earned a fan following that to this day remains strong. As the GM, she spearheaded numerous promotions and special events that drew crowds from throughout Northwest Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.

Thiel has also volunteered and worked with a host of non-profits in the region, including the Arc of Warren County, where she is currently a board member on its Foundation. She is also an Exempt Member of the Belvidere Ambulance Corps.  Thiel earned a BA from Centenary University in Radio/Television and is a 4-time award winner with the Garden State Journalists Association.

The WBID, with members located throughout the Borough, hosts numerous activities throughout the year, including festivals, community functions, lunch and learns, and networking opportunities. For more about the WBID, visit www.washingtonbid.org, or call 908-689-4800.
