Legendary saxophonist Phil Woods lived right across from Warren County in the Poconos. There, he began a big band jazz legacy in the Delaware Water Gap that The Water Gap Jazz Orchestra carries on today.
On Sunday, Nov. 18, The Water Gap Jazz Orchestra will pay tribute to Woods when they present his music at Rutherfurd Hall in Allamuchy. The show will run 3-5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Orchestra director and alto saxophonist Matt Vashlishan and orchestra saxophonist Nelson Hill both performed with Woods before his 2015 passing. The orchestra’s powerful sound is rounded out by Craig Yaremko, Neil Wetzel, David Demsey, Jay Rattman, Nathan Eklund, Chris Persad, Vanessa Jacob, Sean McAnally, Sam Burtis, Bill Smith, Dan Chester, Dan Magan, Skip Wilkins, Spencer Reed, Evan Gregor, and Rudy Petschar.
Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased on the Rutherfurd Hall website or in-person at Mama’s Café Baci in Hackettstown or Panther Valley Pharmacy in Allamuchy. The series is sponsored by Panther Valley Pharmacy and Heath Village Retirement Community (Hackettstown).
