An Opioid symposium, held on Oct. 24 at Centenary University, focused on the ongoing crisis of addiction and all that goes with it. Sponsored by the Family Guidance Center of Warren County, Centenary University, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Warren County Human Services Department and Hackettstown Stigma Free, the symposium drew dozens of professionals, law enforcement, community leaders and county officials. Warren County Freeholder James Kern III was the moderator of a panel discussion. Speakers included Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke; Laura Richter, Mental Health Administrator/Coordinator of Addictions Services, Warren County Department of Human Services; Katherine Penaherrera, Supervisor of FGC Opioid Overdose Response Program; Keith Morgan. Chair of the Social and Behavioral Science Department of Centenary University; and Thomas, a Recovery Specialist who discussed his own journey of recovery. Several organizations also exhibited at the event, including Parent 2 Parent and Warren County Community College, which highlighted its new Addiction Counseling degree and certificate program.
