Skyland Conference coaches recently chose post-season all-star teams in field hockey, girls soccer, and volleyball. The North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 champion Warren Hills and North Section 1 Group 1 finalist Belvidere field hockey teams were well represented.

Sophomore attacker Simryn Desai (team leader with 18 goals) was in the right place at the right time on several occasions for the young Blue Streaks during the post season, to help Warren Hills win close games. She was one of six Blue Streaks’ underclassmen to be chosen to the Raritan Division first and second units. Backline defenders Kate Fenner (junior), and Kylie Compton (sophomore) also were selected to the first team. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Korczukowski, junior attacker Samantha Dugan (12 goals), and amazing junior goalkeeper Julia Webber were chosen to the second team.

Jenna Wyckoff contributed 10 assists, but inexplicably was not chosen.

The Raritan Division also consisted of Ridge, Montgomery, Phillipsburg, North Hunterdon, and Voorhees for field hockey, a tough league to be sure. Warren Hills, after a slow start, finished with a 19-6-1 record and high hopes for next year, with so many returning all-star performers.

From the Mountain Division, made up of schools with smaller enrollment numbers, Belvidere finished with an overall record of 13-6-1thanks to a strong post-season showing. Forward Maddie Call (10 goals and 10 assists) led a group of four seniors onto the first team. Also chosen were attacker Abby Bronico (10 goals, 5 assists), sweeper Melanie Clark and goalkeeper Anya Logan.

Senior midfielder Mallory Keenan (12 goals) and senior backline defender Samantha Dultz earned second team honors.

The Mountain Division also was made up of North Plainfield, Mount St. Mary, and South Hunterdon for field hockey.

In girls soccer, Warren Hills competed with Voorhees, Somerville, North Plainfield, Mount St. Mary, Delaware Valley, and Bernards, in the Valley Division. The Blue Streaks finished the season with a 7-10 overall record.

Andrea Egerer of Warren Hills was named to the first team. Her mates Maddie Morgan and Alex Shulman made the second team and Paola Benavides was selected for honorable mention.

Belvidere had a 12-10 season, competing in the Mountain Division with Warren Tech, Gill St. Bernards, Rutgers Prep, Immaculata, South Hunterdon, Bound Brook, and Manville.

Sierra May had a prolific 23 goal and 11 assist season for Big Red and was rewarded with a first team selection, as was Brie Opdyke, who scored 15 goals and handled five assists.

Kassidy Schanzlin and Ashley Sendgikoski were awarded second team and honorable mention honors respectively.

Warren Tech struggled through an 0-16 season. The Knights’ goalkeeper Cecilia Smith was kept on her toes and she compiled 211 saves. She and Jiovanna Rawa earned honorable mention.

In volleyball, Warren Hills (8-15) competed in the Raritan Division with Warren Tech, Montgomery, Voorhees, Phillipsburg, Immaculata, Rutgers Prep, Mount St. Mary’s and Delaware Valley. Georgia Hollenbeck was chosen first team and Emily Brundage made the second unit, representing the Blue Streaks.

Warren Tech persevered through an 0-17 season, with Zaloni Johnson making the second team and Juliet Reid winning honorable mention recognition.
