Where are they now? Mary Smith
By Andy Loigu
Many of our local high school athletes grow up to undertake successful careers in public service. One such person is former Belvidere two-sport athlete Mary Smith, who has come back to Warren County to help make it a better and safer place.
As a high school sports participant she was a finalist for the honor of Warren County Female Athlete of the Year, which was chosen by a poll of athletic directors and media members. She shined as the catcher for the BHS softball team. She went on to join her sister Megan on the softball squad at Moravian College. The sisters were part of a hugely successful season in 2004, when Moravian was a regional champion and took second place in the national playoffs.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Moravian and went on to earn a master’s degree in 2016 from Trident University in healthcare administration and management.
A military veteran, she served for five years as travel coordinator, maintaining a sizable annual budget and was in charge of record keeping for over 150 personnel. She organized various conferences, important events and handled many documents and correspondence,
Now, for the last decade (and still counting) she has been helping make Warren a better and safer community as program director and facilitator for a non-profit agency, Community Prevention Resources of Warren County (CPRWC). Working to make Warren healthy and drug-free, she provides educational programs and maintains a resource center. They aim to reduce bullying, teach internet safety and prevent substance abuse and facilitate mental health counseling.
Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.
