The Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County (DASACC) is proud to announce and welcome Sonia Ron in the newly created position of Bilingual Counselor. Sonia will be responsible for providing domestic violence and sexual assault counseling, case management, and community outreach to Spanish-speaking survivors in our communities.
Sonia joins the DASACC team from the Family Support Organization of Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren County located in Washington. It was there that Sonia served as a Community Outreach Specialist and worked to develop new and innovative ways to reach the community and the families that could benefit from much needed resources and support.
“We are so excited to welcome Sonia to DASACC, although she is not a stranger in Warren County. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and continue to expand our services to our community,” said DASACC Executive Director, Jill Zinckgraf.
Sonia was born in Cuba and came to live in the United States when she was nine years old. Along with over ten years of experience in the mental health field, Sonia has her Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior and Applied Psychology, is certified in Mental Health First Aid, and is a certified Nurtured Heart Trainer.
When asked about what she hopes to accomplish in her new role as a Bilingual Counselor, Sonia shared, “I hope to be able to assist those that have perhaps never been so vulnerable and in need of help. I will strive to be a positive force in their journey and to assist them as best as I can in supporting them and their family toward a better and safer future.”
Sonia has lived in Warren County for over 20 years with her partner, Lisa Stoll-Ron, who is the Librarian at Warren County Community College, and their three boys. “Our community is changing as well as the people that are moving here…I believe that through involvement and commitment, positive change happens and I strive to be a part of that,” said Sonia.
The mission of DASACC is to help, serve, and advocate for those impacted by interpersonal violence, to be proactive regarding its prevention, and to create positive change. DASACC provides services to all who identify themselves as victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. In 2020, over 1,000 women, men, and children received services at DASACC.
