Seminar Focuses on Cannabis and What Businesses Need to Know – ‘Marijuana & The Workplace’

With recreational marijuana soon to be available to the public, businesses need to know what they can and cannot do when it comes to setting employee standards.

Warren Community College’s Continuing Education program will be hosting a live seminar, “Marijuana & The Workplace,” intended for business owners, managers, town officials, administrators,  and human resource personnel on Wednesday July 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

With the legalization of marijuana for recreational use the Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act (CREAMMA) sets new standards for all New Jersey employers, public and private.

These requirements place significant burdens on companies doing business in New Jersey concerning marijuana and the workplace. Among other things CREAMMA prohibits an employer from taknig adverse action against an individual solely because that person does (or does not) use marijuana recreationally. Failure to know, understand and implement these standards could expose the employer to significant liability.

Here are key points that employers should address in their policy planning:
-Pre-employment drug testing-On the job cannabis use-Smoke-free and cannabis-free zones-On the job intoxication-Workplace impairment recognition expert requirements-Federal cannabis requirements

New Jersey attorney Michael S. Richmond, who has also served as a municipal prosecutor for 25 years, will lead the discussion as to what you need to know and when this will all go into affect, and what will still be to come.

Cost for the seminar is $119. Advanced registration is required. You can register online, https://form.jotform.com/211464193470150, or by calling 908-689-7613 during regular college hours.
