Robotics Association, Community Groups Raise Funds for Face Shields

The Warren Hills Robotics Association (WRHA) in Washington is spearheading a fundraiser to cover the costs of materials needed to assemble 10,000 plastic face shields for those on the front line against COVID-19.

The goal is to raise $20,000 for the materials, which have already been ordered, to be built per Johns Hopkins Health System specifications into face shields that will help control the spread of the virus.

WHRA is teaming with Warren Hills Regional High School, Mount Olive High School, and Special Technical Services (STI) in Hackettstown to assist those who are helping to keep the community safe and healthy.

The groups have already received donations from more than 175 donors as of Thursday afternoon.

Face shields are different than face masks in several ways. While face masks are cloth material, face shields are made of hard materials like plastic. Face shields cover more of the face than face masks, stretching from the forehead to the chin and around the sides of the face.

Both forms of protection are in high demand in first responder and medical settings.

WHRA plans to distribute assembled face shields to local health care providers and emergency response personnel.
