Retirees With Decades Of Loyalty Honored at The House

These days it’s often hard to find employees who stay in the same job for even a few years, let alone decades.

Yet the House of the Good Shepherd retirement community in Hackettstown has two employees who’ve certainly earned their stripes. Theresa Mutz worked in the housekeeping department for 45 years and Gloria Napier in the business office for 31, giving them 7-plus decades between them. The two recently retired and were recognized by The House for their longtime dedication and commitment.

Many other employees were recently honored with anniversary service year awards but clearly it would be hard for any of them to outshine Mutz and Napier.

“Theresa and Gloria are the epitome of loyalty,” said Sue Lanza, CEO of The House. “You do not find employees like them everyday. They gave their all every hour, everyday. They were both very hard working. We—and not just staff but residents—will miss their smiles and good nature. In Theresa’s case it’s hard to imagine anyone ever breaking her record of 45 years here.”

The two received special gifts as going away presents and lots of good wishes.

Meanwhile several other employees were cited with milestone Years of Service Awards. Margaret Steffy and Darlene Fawthrop, both in the housekeeping department, were recognized for their 15th year anniversary; and Pauline Wilk in dietary and William Canfield in maintenance chalked up 10-year honors.

Eight employees hit the 5-year mark: Kathryn Kresge, JoAnne Ward, Donna Snider and Lilia Kokareva, all in nursing; Nicholas Vasquez and Matthew Blankenship in dietary; Mary Dragun in the business office; and Phillis Dozois in reception.

“Each year we like to take a timeout and recognize our employees who make all the difference here,” said Lanza. “This past year has been especially challenging and these honorees – as well as all of our employees in general – really answered the call of duty. Their support and efforts have been crucial and much appreciated!”
