Poor Man’s Gambit will play St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. to kickoff the 2023 season of The Arts at St. Luke’s.
The Philadelphia-based Celtic band make’s its St. Luke’s debut as it continues the Irish celebration of the month of March.
Poor Man’s Gambit features Deirdre Lockman on fiddle, vocals and Irish dance; Corey Purcell on button accordion, cittern, bodhran, vocals and dance, and Federico Betti on guitar and fiddle. They have recorded three albums and made two international tours since their founding in 2015.
Lockman performed with a family band as well as with the Junior String Philharmonic and the Lehigh University Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in Irish step dancing.
Purcell is also a competitive Irish step dancer as well as playing a number of instruments.
The Milan-born Betti is a co-founder of Inis Fail, a leader of the Italian Irish music scene. He moved to Ireland in 1999 and to America in 2009.
The Arts at St. Luke’s presents monthly concerts at the church, 346 High St., Hope. On- and off-street parking is available and the building is wheelchair accessible. A $10 donation is suggested. The events are partially funded by a grant from the NJ State Council of the Arts through the Warren County Division of Land Preservation Bicentennial Cultural and Heritage Advisory Board.
