As social distancing continues, award-winning photographer Cathy Miller dives into her archives to share some of her favorite experiences in and around Warren.
Here’s a gem from last June. Unfortunately, it fell victim to social safety versus the pandemic this year.
Slated for June 13, the 4th Annual ParkFest at Bread Lock Park has been cancelled.
A free event, ParkFest brings together people of diverse interests from across the region for a fun day in a beautiful, historical park.
In 2019, ParkFest featured an art show in a big beautiful barn with original works by local artists, a classic car show, exhibits by history and heritage groups, and “Authors Alley” where attendees met published authors. Built into the side of a barn with open air seating, the ParkFest stage served up live musical performances all day. Select food vendors and community organizations were also on hand.
Kids were treated to special activities and entertainment.
The Warren County History Museum at Bread Lock Park was open during the festival. Attendees explored artifacts, displays, and working models from the county’s rich history. They showcased the area’s earliest Lenni Lenape inhabitants, the Colonial period and the birth of the iron industry, the Morris Canal, Thomas A. Edison’s local cement industry and the first “concrete mile” of roadway in New Jersey, and much more.
In addition to the Museum, the Park includes a life-sized model of a canal boat, a picnic area, and a walking/exercise path along the Morris Canal Greenway.
Bread Lock Park is located at the site of the historic Morris Canal Lock No. 7 West, which earned a reputation (and its name) as the “Bread Lock” during the canal era (1829–1924) when the lock tender’s wife baked and sold fresh bread to the passing canal boats.
