Oxford Central School has been named the only 2020 Warren County “State School of Character” by Character.org, which recognizes schools and school districts that demonstrate dedication to character development.
OCS was among only 81 schools and seven school districts around the country that received this designation. This is the second time OCS has been recognized. Now, the school will be considered for the title of National School of Character, the winners of which will be announced in May.
“This is a unique honor for the Oxford Central School,” said Robert Magnuson, Chief School Administrator of the Oxford Township School District. “We were previously recognized as a School of Character both in New Jersey and at the national level. To be selected again illustrates the on-going efforts of our students and our staff to promote the importance of being a good person!”
Character.org works with schools, families, workplaces, and communities to educate, inspire, and empower people of all ages to be ethical and compassionate citizens. Its “11 Principles of Effective Character”isa comprehensive framework that helps schools improve academic achievement, student behavior, and overall positive school climate.
Criteria for selection were based on the 11 Principles, which include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.
