The Oxford Central School archery team capped off their 2018 season with a strong showing earlier this month. After winning their 12th state title in the middle school division, the team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to represent their school and New Jersey in the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) Eastern National Tournament.
Oxford’s archery team of 26 students began practicing in the fall and their hard work paid off in March in the NJ NASP State Tournament. Not only did Oxford place first in their division with a score of 3,175 points, they recorded the highest score among eleven competing teams across elementary, middle, and high school divisions. The team was led in the state tournament by Katie Bodmer and Ashley Nitko. Bodmer’s score of 278 ranked her first among seventh grade girls in the tournament and third out of 108 girls in the competition. Nitko’s score of 277 placed as the third-highest score among middle school girls in the state.
From there the team practiced for two more months in preparation for last week’s National Tournament. The team competed in the IBO 3D Challenge and finished 57th and 72nd out of 108 middle school teams. Ray Sheaffer and Cody Miller led the team with scores of 275 and 272, respectively.
Oxford shined once again in the Bullseye competition at Nationals with a team score of 3,221, highest among New Jersey schools and eclipsing their score from the state tournament by 41 points. Their performance placed them in the top third of middle schools in competition, coming in at 85th of 255 middle school teams. Katie Bodmer and Cody Miller each scored 280, placing them well within the top 10% of middle school shooters in competition. The team is very thankful for the continued support from the Oxford community and looks forward to another successful season next year.
