OCS Gives Back for the Holidays

Oxford Central School students decorate a poster for a family facing mounting medical bills.

From the halls of Oxford Central School:

Students and staff at Oxford Central School have come together this season to spread holiday cheer.

To help provide Thanksgiving meals for those who could not afford one, students brought in loose change. The school raised an outstanding $870, which was donated to the Oxford Second Presbyterian Church.

Students and staff also rallied behind a local family facing growing medical bills due to a battle with cancer within the family. To help raise money, students participated in “Heels for the Hills.” Sponsors donated money for every minute that the student walked during the event, or made a one-time donation to the cause. A total of $4,262.75 was raised.

In order to take care of our military troops in Afghanistan, students and staff donated various items, such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lip balm, cough drops, and snacks. These items will be donated to Rolling Thunder, an advocacy group.

Finally, students and staff donated new pairs of pajamas from ages newborn to adult. For every pair of pajamas, the Scholastic Book Club donated a brand new book through its Pajama Program. This program allows children that are affected by instability to have a warm and cozy good night. Oxford Central School donated more than 350 pairs of new pajamas.
