Novelists Lee Upton and Sun J. Woo to Present at Warren Communtity College

The Warren Community College Visiting Authors Series continues on Wednesday, October 23, with readings by novelists Lee Upton and Sung J. Woo. The event, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in room 123A, is free and open to the public.

Lee Upton writes in multiple genres. Her comic novel, TABITHA, GET UP, was launched in May 2024 from Sagging Meniscus Press. Her most recent book of poetry is her seventh collection, The Day Every Day Is, winner of the Saturnalia Books Prize (2023).  Her writing has been recognized as noteworthy in listings in editions of Best American Short Stories, the Pushcart Prize anthology, and Best American Essays. Her awards include the Open Book Award from the Cleveland State University Poetry Center; the Lyric Poetry Award and The Writer/Emily Dickinson Award from the Poetry Society of America; the Pushcart Prize; the National Poetry Series Award; the Georgia Contemporary Poetry Series Award; and the BOA Short Fiction Award.

Sung J. Woo’s short stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, PEN/Guernica, Financial Times, and Vox. He has written five novels: Lines (2024), Deep Roots (2023), Skin Deep (2020), Love Love (2015), and Everything Asian (2009), which won the 2010 Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Literature Award.  In 2022, his Modern Love essay from The New York Times was adapted by Amazon Studios for episodic television. A graduate of Cornell University with an MFA from New York University, he lives in Washington, New Jersey.

The Visiting Authors Series is supported by a grant from the Warren County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs. All physical site facilities comply with ADA regulations and are fully accessible. Sign language interpretation for any VAS event is available with two weeks’ notice.
