Always measuring the pulse of those in need, Norwescap recently received two outstanding recognitions for doing what it does best – supporting and empowering people to move away from the crisis of poverty into a future where they can thrive.
On Tuesday, March 21, Norwescap was presented the “Collaborative Approach Award” by the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), at its annual Not-for-Profit Summit. This award recognized Norwescap’s efforts to support individuals, families, and communities throughout New Jersey, through forging strategic partnerships with other non-profit service providers, corporations, local and state agencies, and other key stakeholders. Altogether, through Norwescap’s wide array of programs, services and collaborations, it was able to leverage approximately $24 million in revenue last year to deliver over $100 million in value back to its participants and communities.
Later that week, on March 23, the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce presented Norwescap with the “Business Innovation Award” in recognition of an “organization initiating new approaches…and challenging the status quo with outside-the-box thinking.” Norwescap was chosen for this award in recognition of the opening of the Sussex Borough Community & Cultural Center in 2022. Born out of a series of community conversations and workshops facilitated by Norwescap in 2021, the Center has created a vibrant hub of programming and resources for the residents of Sussex and surrounding towns. In less than one year, hundreds of community members have come to the Center to enjoy youth and senior programming, an accessible “laptop lab,” small business and entrepreneurship workshops, health and wellness programs, pop-up produce/dairy distributions and free community meals, cooking classes, vaccine clinics and health screenings, and arts and crafting workshops.
When it comes to communities and collaboration, Norwescap’s been working at it for over 55 years, and is continually being recognized by organizations throughout the State. The ongoing success and support of its “out-of-the-box” approach to uplifting the lives of those in need by expanding services in its communities is a testament to its dedication and foresight.
Originally established in 1965, Norwescap has evolved into a comprehensive nonprofit organization providing services to over 30,000 individuals annually. The organization offers a broad array of services that support and empower people with low to moderate income, helping them move away from the crisis of poverty and towards a future where they can thrive. Norwescap’s programs address immediate needs and build strategies for long term success, focusing on education, employment, financial empowerment, health and nutrition, housing and community development, and volunteerism and civic engagement.
