Some people may be surprised to learn the Jersey Shore wasn’t always the vacation Mecca it is today. The Shore rose to prominence during Prohibition and Greg Caggiano, an author and historian, will present a Zoom program on the many mobsters who controlled the importing and distribution of illegal liquor, and how peaceful seaside resort towns set up as religious retreats turned into hotbeds of violence and treachery.
The program is part of the Warren County Library’s adult Zoom sessions and will be held on Tuesday, March 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Watch and listen to learn what was happening a hundred years ago right in your own backyard. A question and answer session will follow the lecture.
Caggiano Serves on the board of the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society, a town steeped in rum-running history during Prohibition. Register with Laura at (908) 362-8335 or laurag@warrenlib.org.
