The Teen Book Club at the Southwest Branch of the Warren County Library is reading Garth Nix’s “The Left-Handing Booksellers of London,” this month and holding a discussion on Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m.

The book is recommended for ages 14 and up due to violence and strong language.

Nix’s book presents an alternate version of 1980s London in which Susan Arkshaw is in search of her long-lost father. Her quest leads her to a group of magical beings tasked with keeping the modern world safe from the mythical Old World, while running bookshops at the same time. Merlin, a left-handed bookseller, is working to uncover the truth about his mother’s death. Together, Merlin and Susan look for answers, while the threat of the Old World looms over them.

Snacks and drinks will be provided. This title can be found on Hoopla. Register with Kayleigh at kficarra@warrenlib.org.

PIRATE ADVENTURE

Children from preschoolers to teens will enjoy a pirate-themed science lesson at the meeting room of the Richard D. Gardner Branch of the Warren County Library on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Presenter TaleWise will create an action-packed adventure about a crew of quirky pirates marooned on a desert island. With mutiny and high-tide looming, they must rescue their salty captain and find a way to repair their ship before all hope is lost. Throughout the story, explore the incredible science behind clouds, physical and chemical changes, air pressure, and more. Volunteers from the audience will help us conduct several hands-on science experiments. Please register all who are attending with M. Shick mshick@warrenlib.org.
