With summer right around the corner, school is nearly coming to end. But the education of area children doesn’t have to stop there.
Starting the week of July 23, Warren County Community College will be offering a full schedule of Summer Youth Enrichment Programs, a fun and challenging alternative to traditional camp programs for children in elementary and middle schools. An exciting new program, “Drones for Kids”, kicks off on June 26.
WCCC’s summer program is known for its unique educational courses, making it a terrific alternative to standard summer camps.
Courses offered allow children a chance to learn something that may interest them and gives them a hands opportunity that they typically won’t get anywhere else.
Courses being offered include “Minecraft Modders,” which teaches children from ages 8-14 the basics of modding and programming in a simulated environment inspired by the game Minecraft; “Video Game Animation,” which allows 8-14 year olds to create their own character sprites, background objects and backgrounds in videogames; and the new “Drones for Kids.”
“Drones for Kids” is designed specifically for children ages 8-15 who want to learn the ins and outs of operating a drone. In this course children will build small drones and go on to learn how to test and eventually fly them. This course will meet at the NJ Drone Academy in Ringoes. The “Drones for Kids” program has six different sections being offered throughout the summer.
Other new programs WCCC will feature this summer are “Motorized LEGO Maker Machines,” “Oceanography,” “ROBLOX Makers-Coders-Entrepreneurs,” and “Advanced 3D Video Game With Unity.”
All courses except for the drone course, will be held on the WCCC main campus, Route 57, Washington Township. Registration for all summer courses are now open. To register and for more information, please visit warren.edu/ce/.
