The fifth season of Rutherfurd Hall’s Great Jazz Series launches Sunday, Sept. 18 in grand fashion with a Piano Spectacular.
Featuring the talent of great American pianists Ted Rosenthal and Billy Mays, the afternoon show runs 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and costs only $25 for advanced tickets.
Rosenthal and Mays both have extensive careers with some of the jazz greats, performing with the Gerry Mulligan, Phil Woods, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, to name a few. Rosenthal has traveled worldwide in solo and group settings, and has been a featured soloist for several American orchestras. Mays performed for four years with the US Navy Band and then 15 years in the Hollywood Studios as a session player. He has performed with Frank Sinatra, among other big names.
The rest of the season promises to be filled with even more high caliber performances from world-renowned performers:
Oct. 16: Houston Person, tenor saxophone supreme, with the David Leonhardt Trio
Nov. 27: Bill Charlap, piano virtuoso
Jan. 8, 2017: Daryl Sherman Quartet featuring Warren Vache plays the music of Cole Porter
Feb. 26: Pete McGuinness Sextet salutes Mel Torme
March 26: Chico Mendoza Sextet plays Latin Jazz
April 23: Tony DeSare, inimitable song stylist and pianist
All shows will be held Sundays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Rutherfurd Hall, 1686 Route 517, Allamuchy, near the Route 80 ramp.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Special ticket packages are available until Oct. 14: All 7 shows, $160, Pick 5, $115, and Pick 3, $70.
