“Jamfest” Will Keep Rockin’ During Height of Summer

Centenary Stage Company's Summer Jamfest begins July 16 with Parrotbeach, which pays tribute to Jimmy Buffett and island music.

The Centenary Stage Company’s 2016 Summer Jamfest offers a variety of music to satisfy all ages and musical interests during the peak of summer.

Running Saturdays July 16 through August 6, each concert will take place in the Sitnik Theater at the Lackland Center. Shows kick off at 8 p.m.

First up, the theater will transform into “your ultimate vacation destination” as Parrotbeach performs the best of Jimmy Buffett and island music. Party to your favorite Jimmy Buffet tunes and sing along to Buffett’s humorous chronicles of a laid-back seafaring life.

The music continues on Saturday, July 23, as the swinging sounds of the big band era hits Hackettstown with The Rob Stoneback Big Band performing a “class act” of popular swing standards. This impressive 19-piece band has performed all over the Mid-Atlantic region.

The swing keeps on swinging with the Artie Shaw Orchestra on July 30. Nicknamed the King of Swing after his hit, “Begin the Beguine,” Artie Shaw was thereafter renowned for his innovative combination of instruments. The orchestra will play several of the arrangements that made Artie Shaw so popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Featuring clarinetist Matt Koza, the group hews to the Shaw legacy, and continues with the time-tested formula that has always pleased a full spectrum of audiences from the “Begin the Beguine” fans of yesteryear to the new jazz fans who want to imbibe in an exciting and heady evening of swing.

The Eagles are arguably the quintessential American band, combining influences of both rock and country music into a unique sound that provided the soundtrack to a generation. Closing out the Jamfest on Saturday, Aug. 6,  will be Desert Highway Band, A Tribute to the Eagles. The show will take the audience on a nonstop journey through numerous radio hits, top ten singles and favorite solo works of The Eagles.

Tickets for Parrotbeach, The Artie Shaw Orchestra, and Desert Highway Band are $30 for adults and $25 for students. The Rob Stoneback Big Band tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students. Ticket prices increase $5 the day of the performance.  A Summer Jamfest Subscription is also available: Pre-purchase tickets for all four performances for only $90 by contacting the CSC box office at (908) 979-0900.

For more information or to purchase tickets visit centenarystageco.org or call the Centenary Stage Company box office, which is open Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and two hours prior to each performance. The Lackland Center is located at 715 Grand Ave. in Hackettstown.
