It was this past Saturday at 9 a.m., and I am perusing my archives to see if I can come up with an interesting story for my Photo of the Week article. Checked my ‘Email Travels Log’ containing over 900 emails I have sent out over the years. Went to my ‘Wildlife folder’ and came across this story dated Sunday July 19, 2015. My next task was to check my Insidewarren.com folder to make sure this won’t be a repeat story!! I don’t believe it will, as the date of this story pre dates my involvement with insidewarren.com back in December 2018. OK, no repeat! I now have my next Photo of the Week article!!
I am getting ready to do a little research and updates for the article and it comes to mind, “What a difference in temperatures for these two dates!!” I am sitting at my computer and it is about 4 degrees outside!! When this rescue story was taking place, July 19, 2015, it was over 90 degrees!! Too bad we can’t borrow some of that heat from back then and transfer it to today!! Alas, a thought, just trying to warm us up!
METHODOLOGY FOR THIS ARTICLE:
I will write my ‘Story Behind The Photo of the Week’ (see above) as my introduction. I had already forwarded this email to myself, I did not have to edit any of the writing, so you will be reading my original message about the rescue portion of this incident. I have removed several photos from Lake Wasigan showing the swan family there. Last but not least, I am going to do a little research for other organizations which may aid you, if you ever find yourself in that, YOU GONNA HELP??!! MOMENT!! Now at least you will know Who, What, and Where to call!!
THE STORY:
This is a story of one of those unexpected moments, a moment presenting itself in an instant flash, with a ‘TIME SENSITIVE” question, YOU GONNA HELP!!?? This particular incident was truly time sensitive!!
We are returning home from a nice Sunday breakfast and some shopping around at a local nursery for some yard plants. Just made the comment, it is going to be a scorcher of a day with high humidity, good day to stay inside and do some bills, indoor projects etc.. Suddenly I notice this tiny baby rabbit just lying in the roadway, close to the center line in the opposite lane! Stop, back up, put on the four ways and exit my car. Let me give the little ”guy” an assist to the side of the road! Looking down I notice that its rear leg seems to be a little out of line. Pick up the rabbit and go back to the car, telling my friend it needs some help, I’ll take him home and see if I can search out one of those animal rescue centers. My friend mentioned good thing you stopped; he would have surely been hit by a car or worse “get cooked” on the hot pavement! Even if he made it off the road, with a bad leg and at his tiny size he would never have survived!
Anne Marie is on Google and in a few moments, Wild Baby Rescue Center Inc. pops up with a phone number. Long story short, call is made and I hear the relieving words of ‘bring him up’! Within a half an hour I am handing over the baby rabbit. After a quick check it was determined he had a broken leg. I filled out some paperwork required by their license. I then mentioned I wanted to give a donation and then thanked all of the members of this dedicated group.
I hadn’t planned on being in Blairstown BUT, since I am here, let me take a nice tour back home, never know what you will see! I passed by Lake Wasigan and noticed a family of swans. I had been by here in April and have a photo of one of the swans on the nest. I am going to stop and take some photos. It will be a nice addition to this email message. While walking back from my car looking for a clear view for a photo, a car stops and an older gentleman and his wife mentioned that there were originally 7 baby swans and now only one! It is not an easy life when living in the wild.
I would like to post the information for my friends in Warren and Sussex County. You never know when it may come in handy and help save a life, not to mention make the remainder of your day a lot more pleasant. For all my other friends, please take a few moments to learn what facilities such as this are in your area!
