Hackettstown Student Earns Scholarship

Emily Segada, left, of Hackettstown, receives a scholarship from Paul Smith's College.

Hackettstown’s Emily Segada competed against 68 other students in a hands-on scholarship challenge to earn a $3,000 scholarship to Paul Smith’s College, in upstate New York.

The competition included a group challenge in which Segada and her fellow applicants wrote a short story and acted out a play based on a set of words and pictures they were assigned. Each student also had to write an essay and participated in one-on-one interviews with college representatives.

Scholarship awards ranged from $1,000 per year to full tuition coverage.

Paul Smith’s College is the only four-year institution of higher education in the Adirondacks. It offers programs including hospitality, culinary arts, forestry, natural resources, entrepreneurship, and the sciences.

Segada attends Hackettstown High School.
