The Hackettstown High School softball players may have a future as disk jockeys.
They keep the hits coming. Samantha Mandas went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored on May 2, leading the Tigers to a mercy-rule shortened 11-1 win over Sussex Tech, giving Hackettstown an 11-5 record. The unsinkable Molly O’Brien joined the hit parade with a triple and a run scored. Zoe Tuggle drove in a run and scored twice. Jordan Vandermark went 2-for-2.
Nicole Carter pitched a five-inning complete game, scattering seven hits and one walk, while striking out six.
Mandas drove in five runs with two hits and also scored a run as the Tigers won a mercy-rule shortened game at Mount Olive by a 15-4 score on May 1.
Hunter Ruppel, Cheyenne Scudder, Alivia Duran and Nicole Carter each produced two-hit, 2 RBI games to keep the line moving around the bases.
AND ON TO BASEBALL
The Tigers’ baseball team stood at 9-5 after a 15-3 win at Sussex Tech on May 4 in Sparta. Power hitter Jake Hall blasted a three-run homer and Hackettstown broke the game open with an 11-run explosion in the sixth inning.
Hall and Matt Arcona pitched for Hackettstown.
Warren Hills enjoyed its visit to TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater (home of the professional Somerset Patriots) on April 29, with an 18-8 win over rival Hackettstown.
Chris Bell hit for the cycle for the Blue Streaks, going 4-for-5 with 5 RBI. That’s swinging a big bat.
Also joining the party was Tom Moore with two doubles, two “ribbies,” and two runs scored. Peter Warsen went 2-for-2 with a homer, 3 RBI and four runs scored. PJ Hanisak added a double, 4 RBI, and scored twice.
Joey Rodriguez led the Tigers with two doubles and 3 RBI. Dylan Henderson was the winning pitcher. Kevin Smith and Warsen finished up on the mound.
Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building.
