A golf outing to support the Mount Olive, Hopatcong and Hackettstown ice hockey program has been scheduled for Friday, July 22.
Called MOHOHA to include all three participating high schools, the team competes against top notch varsity programs from large enrollment schools in Morris and Sussex counties. The local squad qualified for conference and state playoffs last winter and has played a high quality brand of hockey at Mennen Arena.
The team has adopted a Jon Gordon quote as its rallying cry: “The character you possess during the drought is what your team will remember during the harvest.”
By joining a three-school cooperative team, Hackettstown is able to offer ice hockey as a sports activity to its student body in a sport in which they would otherwise not have enough players to field a team on their own.
In addition to supplying the necessary equipment to enable players to skate safely at high speed in a contact sport, there also is a constant need to secure well maintained practice and game facilities from people who make their living by renting them. New Jersey players do not get the chance to play and develop skills on their own by playing on ponds that stay frozen all winter, the way youngsters do in places like Finland and Canada. Fundraising will always remain an essential part of the program’s sustainability.
The outing will happen at Flanders Valley Golf Course, 81 Pleasant Hill Road in Flanders, which is in a scenic part of Mount Olive Township.
The $150 per golfer registration includes green fees, cart rental, beverage stations, and a buffet dinner. Guests will have plenty of chances to win prizes on and off the course. If you register before June 22 you get a complimentary t-shirt.
Three sponsorship options are available for those who wish to make a significant contribution to the ice hockey program.
