Going green can be as easy as spring cleaning! The Hope Environmental Commission and Green Team is excited to host the third annual “Go Green With Hope” Fair with Spring Cleanout Extravaganza.
Featuring many free activities, including a shredding service and electronics collection, the fair will be held Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hope Municipal Building, 407 Hope-Great Meadows Road.
The fair includes several ways to turn spring cleaning into opportunities for recycling and sustainability. Instead of throwing out old “junk,” drop off zones allow for old stuff to get new life.
Used towels, cleaning supplies, blankets, and pet supplies are encouraged for donation to local animal shelters. Gently used clothing, housewares, toys, and books will be collected for families and organizations in need. The fair also provides a safe drop-off location for electronic waste, including computers, flat screen televisions, and select appliances (please, no electronics with CRT or Freon). Electronic drop-offs benefit Abilities of Northwest New Jersey.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to safely collect unwanted and expired medications in pill and capsule form.
Other activities will include the Hope premier of the movie “Bag It!”, which poses the question “Is your life too plastic?” A swap-market will allow participants to swap their useful but unneeded items. Don’t need any more stuff? Save it from a landfill and give it away!
Plenty of booths will also be set up with informative displays and the Hope School Green Team will be discussing White Nose Syndrome in bats.
As an added bonus to taking part in this all-ages event, visitors will be entered into a drawing for a family 4-pack to Land of Make Believe and will receive exclusive coupons to local businesses.
If a resident or organization is interested in hosting a booth or lecture, or would like to volunteer in another way, there is still time to sign up, just e-mail green.hopenj@gmail.com.
