Warren Hills Regional High School’s Computer Science students will again host their award-winning GirlsCodingWithGirls mentorship program, running Monday evenings, Feb. 24-March 30.
This unique program matches high school girls studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with elementary and middle school girls in 4th through 8th grade who are interested in learning more about coding and computational thinking.
Participants create their own computer-generated game over the course of six, two-hour meetings, and then showcase their accomplishments at the end of the program!
All levels of experience are welcome at GirlsCodingWithGirls, a winner of the Champions of Computer Science awards, as students are paired with high school mentors that will help them learn at their own pace.
Since it was created in 2014, the program has “graduated” 325 elementary and middle school girls, who put in nearly 4,000 hours of coding. This session will include the mentorship of 19 high school computer science students, all of whom have mentored in the past and returned for more fun.
Price for the program is $50 for six weeks of classes; dinner is included each week. Meetings take place in the Warren Hills High School Library.
Interested families can visit the GirlsCodingWithGirls registration page. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
