Artist Elisabeth Jacobsen will be holding a Gallery Talk during her exhibition, Down to Basics, at 5 East Art Gallery on Saturday, Oct. 17, 4-6 p.m.

During that time, she will share the story behind her work and how her de-collaged cardboard assemblages bring forth a unique view of the world.

Elisabeth lives and works in Annandale, New Jersey, and New York City and has a rich background in art education. She has worked in the field of visual merchandising design, taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and has been a part of national and international exhibitions.

Elisabeth’s most recent body of work, these cardboard de-collaged assemblages, is experimental concerning form in space. The pieces explore materiality and object. Cardboard can be strong or fragile. Because it is familiar and accessible, readily found or inexpensively purchased, it offers an unexplored freedom to inspect, test, and discover. Physical deconstruction and reconstruction of the honeycomb cardboard gives vision to create unique structures.

The shop can accommodate 10 people at a time. Refreshments will be available in the tearoom dining area.

Down to Basics closes on October 31.

5 East Art Gallery holds many events to engage the community, providing a space for both visual and performance art.
