Jerry Galante has been named Director of the Hackettstown Free Public Library.
Galante, who started in November, has been a professional librarian for 12 years. He spent the last three as Branch Manager at the Dorothy Henry Memorial Branch of the Sussex County Library System in Vernon. In this role, Galante co-chaired the Reopening Task Force for Sussex County Libraries, a group tasked with reopening the county’s libraries during the COVID pandemic.
A resident of Hackettstown for the last seven years, Galante is excited to take on the role of Library Director in his adopted hometown.
“I endeavor to make the Hackettstown Free Public Library a cornerstone of the community and a place where everyone can feel at home,” he said.
Galante envisions the library as providing meaningful and substantive information and services for all residents of Hackettstown for many years to come.
Galante has worked in libraries since he was a teenager in the late 1990s. In addition to his time at the Sussex County Library System, he worked as a Cataloging Librarian for Baker & Taylor, Inc., as a Cataloger for the Nassau Library System (NY), as a Librarian Trainee at the Garden City Public Library (NY), and as a Cataloger in the Swirbul Library at Adelphi University. He holds an MLS in Library Science from Queens College (NY) and a BA in History from Adelphi University.
