From the Halls of Warren Hills: Nov. 20, 2019

RECOGNITIONS

Gretchen Fix

Warren Hills Senior, Gretchen Fix, from Washington Borough, performed with the New Jersey All-State Mixed Choir earlier this month at the teacher’s convention in Atlantic City.  The choir was over 300 voices strong and featured the highest achieving vocal students from throughout the entire state of New Jersey.  Students auditioned last April and rehearsed over a six month period in order to prepare.  This year’s conductor was Dr. Sandra Snow director of Choral Activities at Michigan State University.

The women of Rock and Pop

The female members of the Warren Hills Rock and Pop chorus performed “The National Anthem” at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in Washington for a golf event organized to honor veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Approximately 70 veterans were present and stood with salutes and hands over hearts as our students performed from the clubhouse balcony.  Students who performed were Amber Ali, Kaileigh Cagnassola, Sarah Doerwang, Phoenix Dougherty, Emily Gilligan, Gretchen Fix, Alex Lino, Angel Kariuki, Marisa Parker Paige Butler and Emma Kaiven. The chorus is directed by Warren Hills HS teacher, Lauren Voight.

The National Honor Society welcomed new students in a candle lighting ceremony.

Congratulations to the Warren Hills students inducted into the National Honor Society on November 12th: Alyssa Cupo, Marissa Dillon, Phoenix Dougherty, Rachel Fitz, Eric Hardy, Caroline Larsen, Meghan McLaren, Leila Novljakovic, Abigail Wall and Brooke Yencha.

SPORTS

The Blue Streaks varsity field hockey team

Blue Streaks field hockey took home their eighth straight sectional championship after taking down West Morris 3-1 in the North 1, Group 3 final. The varsity team is made up of Emily Dvorsky, Madison Summitt, Olivia Chomut, Kylie Compton, Simryn Desai, Sarah Korczukowski, Ashley Moskal, Elizabeth Schlaffer, Juliana Valli, Jenna Wyckoff, Jessica DeSanto, Samantha Dugan, Kate Fenner, Sophia Foster, Panagiota Georgoutsos, Julia Webber, and is led by Head Coach Josie Potter and Assistant Coaches Erica Russel  and Geri McKelvey.

The cheerleading squad won big last month.

The Blue Streaks Cheerleaders also took home a big title recently. They won the Skyland Conference Championship, Raritan Division, held on Oct. 29 at Phillipsburg High School. The squad includes Rylee Rhinehart, Natasha Waslik, Hailey Anderson, Olivia Claffey, Kaitlyn DeGeorge, Liya Gundersen, Rylan Hult, Madison McKenna, Izabel Meteleski, Mia Nisivoccia, Madison Read, Ava Rhinehart, Sidney Adetula, Gabriella Briganti, Valentina Waslik, Hannah DeVoe, Samantha Lipinski, Mia Albergato, Hailey Cavanaugh, Ashleigh Knorr, Kelli Knowles, Brooke Motzer, Brooke Yencha, and is led by Head Coach Libby Horvath and Assistant Coaches Kim Yaopola and Kayla Tietz.

EVENTS

On Nov. 6, Warren Hills finance teachers DeanaMarie Turner and Alison Frey took students on a walking tour of the financial district in New York City, including posing for pictures in front of the famous bull statue.  They were accompanied by alumni Tyler Henning, who is employed on Wall Street.

GlamourGal Sydney Smith and Shirley, a resident at Warren Haven in Oxford.

Sixteen helpful Warren Hills GlamourGals visited seniors at Warren Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Oxford on Nov. 2. Advised by Business teacher Julia Henning, the GlamourGals club is part of a national service organization that visits local retirement communities to hold inter-generational conversations and give manicures to residents.
